The conservative PP and the socialist PSOE are backing a new wording of the clause on support for people with disabilities.

Spain’s two main political parties have agreed to bury their differences — at least for a moment — to change a small part of the country’s written constitution. The conservative PP and the socialist PSOE, along with virtually all other political parties, back a rewording of the clause on support for people with disabilities to update the outdated language. The change will replace the word ‘handicapped’.Changes to the Spanish constitution are never taken lightly by politicians, especially when there is currently so much tension over the planned amnesty for Catalan political rebels, which opposition MPs say goes against it. The far-right Vox party does not support the change, which is going through parliament, because it believes it shows too much complicity between PP and PSOE at a time of major disagreements in other areas.
