This is the first Occidental that the Barceló group opens in Morocco

Barceló Hotel Group has announced the opening of a new hotel in the city of Tangier, which will be its first establishment marketed under the Occidental brand in Morocco. This hotel is the ninth that the group will manage in our neighboring country, where it is the Spanish chain with the greatest presence.

The new Occidental Tangier (previously known as Hotel Dixil Garden Tangier) is located in Cape Malabata , in the city’s bay, one of its most exclusive and alternative neighborhoods. Located in an architectural complex dating from the beginning of the 20th century, the 4-star hotel has a total of 170 rooms , of which 17 are suites and has a fusion restaurant of Spanish and Moroccan cuisine with an outdoor terrace, as well as areas for meetings and events, a gym and a swimming pool.

In that city, Barceló already has another 5-star category establishment: the Barceló Tánger . On the other hand, and since the arrival of Barceló Hotel Group to Morocco in 2006, the company has invested more than 150 million euros in that country together with its local partners in the acquisition, renovation and repositioning of several hotels.

The presence of Barceló in Morocco

As we said, Barceló Hotel Group currently manages nine hotels in six cities in Morocco : Agadir, Casablanca, Fez, Marrakech, Rabat and Tangier. The Spanish hotel chain generates a significant impact on the economic and social development of these cities, with the creation of more than 1,400 direct jobs and many more indirect ones.

The incorporation of this new hotel in Tangier confirms the company’s commitment to continue growing in Morocco. At the end of last year, Barceló announced the acquisition and subsequent renovation of two 5-star hotels in Casablanca and Rabat , with a planned investment of 80 million euros.

A comprehensive transformation project of both hotel accommodations that will be marketed under the luxury brand Royal Hideaway Hotels & Resorts , in the case of the Casablanca hotel, and Barceló Hotels & Resorts , in the new hotel in Rabat. In this way, Barceló will be present in the country with the four brands: Royal Hideaway, Barceló, Occidental and Allegro.

At the beginning of the year, the company recognized its intention to invest 400 million euros in hotel purchases and renovations in 2024 , maintaining the growth rate reached in 2023, also estimating to achieve a gross operating result (Ebitda) of 500 at the end of the year. million euros , which would represent a new historical maximum.
