An Argentine Malbec was crowned winner of the international competition held in London and achieved the highest distinction.
The Enzo Bianchi Gran Malbec 2021 , the flagship wine of Bodegas Bianchi , was awarded the highest recognition at the Global Malbec Masters 2024 , the competition organized by The Drinks Business in London, known for revolutionizing wine evaluation by focusing exclusively on style and price. This allows the judges, composed of Masters of Wine , Master Sommeliers and expert buyers , to blind taste labels from around the world.
This great Malbec, originally from Los Chacayes , was among the best in the world. «The Master Award is the highest award that a wine can receive in this competition, and being evaluated blindly against wines from the most important producing countries gives it a global character. This recognition places us on the podium of the great Malbecs of the world,» said Pablo Glöggler , General Manager of Bodegas Bianchi .
In this competition, only wines of exceptional quality receive medals: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and the coveted title of «Master», reserved for the best. The Enzo Bianchi Gran Malbec 2021 won the highest distinction.
Silvio Alberto , Chief Winemaker & Viticulture at Bodegas Bianchi, reflected on the importance of Valle de Uco as a producing area of high-quality grapes: «Thanks to precision viticulture, the origin of all great wine, together with the cutting-edge technology of Bodega Enzo Bianchi , we have managed to centralize the production of our iconic wines here, using grapes from our two terroirs: Los Chacayes and San Rafael .»
The new varietal version of this flagship wine was introduced in 2019 with the 2017 vintage. Five years later, the Enzo Bianchi Gran Malbec 2021 won the Global Malbec Master trophy.
«This 2021 Malbec is a true single vineyard & single block , as it comes from a specific lot with perfect polyphenolic ripening,» explains Silvio Alberto . This Malbec is distinguished by its deep red color with violet nuances and its aromatic expression that combines fresh red fruits , hints of violets , spices and minerals, with a perfect integration between terroir and aging.
On the palate, it offers refreshing acidity , elegant tannins and a structural complexity that makes it an iconic wine. According to Alberto , «it is a work of art, passion and attention to detail», which sums up the history of the winery and its tireless search for the perfect balance.
This wine was aged for 12 months in French oak barrels for 90% of its volume, while the remaining 10% rested in amphorae , a technique that further highlights its uniqueness . With a limited production of 27,522 750 ml bottles and 186 1500 ml bottles , its aging potential is 20 years, guaranteeing its evolution and longevity over time.
