An innovative proposal allows travelers to enjoy a unique experience that combines luxury and nature.
“Safari is an iconic travel experience across Africa ,” said Imran Manji , Head of Uber East and Southern Africa . “We’re excited to offer tourists and locals alike the opportunity to book an affordable, luxurious and hassle-free wildlife adventure – all from our app.”
The Uber Safari experience is the latest addition to the company’s ‘Go Anywhere’ series , which follows Uber Bubbles — which ferried passengers between Paris and Champagne this summer — as well as Uber Boat in Mykonos , Uber Balloon in Cappadocia , and more excursions that go beyond the usual shuttle service.
Typically offered during a destination’s peak season, these temporary ride services are designed to make it easy for travelers to book dream adventures. Uber users can take advantage of the app’s Reserve feature and secure an enviable itinerary with minimal planning.
“We’re always looking to push the boundaries of what’s possible in transportation, from luxury travel to climate-conscious mobility solutions,” Manji added . “Every innovation, including Uber Safari, is designed with the future in mind, making travel more exciting, accessible and sustainable.”
What is Uber Safari?
Designed as a luxury excursion from Cape Town, Uber Safari partners with Aquila Private Game Reserve , about a two-hour drive outside the city, to offer an intimate and unique safari experience on 10,000 hectares of protected land.
Up to four passengers can share a booking for round-trip travel and the safari tour through the Uber app . During the Aquila tour , safari participants will be able to see South Africa ‘s «big five» — lions, elephants, buffalo, cheetahs and rhinos — as well as other local species such as giraffes, hippos, flamingos, zebras, springboks, birds, and more.
«In partnership with Aquila Private Game Reserve , one of South Africa ‘s most popular wildlife reserves , guests can feel proud that each reserve contributes to conservation efforts that help protect endangered species and ensure the preservation of South Africa ‘s rich biodiversity,» Manji said .
Uber Safari is a day trip that begins with pickup from any hotel or accommodation in Cape Town around 9 a.m. Travelers can relax in a BMW as they enjoy a scenic drive into the reserve, where they are greeted with a toast of South African wine and a hearty lunch (with vegan options available).
After lunch, groups board safari vehicles for a three-hour game drive, during which field guides and rangers will assist with game viewing. Vehicles are prepared for all types of weather, including rain. At the end of the safari, guests will have time to enjoy the stunning grounds and pool before an Uber takes them back to their hotel.
“We are excited to partner to offer these wildlife experiences to guests,” said Johan van Schalkwyk , Chief Commercial Officer of Aquila Collection . “This service allows people to book and enjoy an unforgettable day, combining modern comfort and natural beauty, while supporting wildlife conservation efforts vital to preserving the region’s biodiversity.”
How much does Uber Safari cost?
Uber Safari Day Trip is surprisingly affordable. The $200 reservation includes transfers, the safari drive, and lunch for up to four passengers, meaning you can go on safari for $50 per person. Tips are, of course, always welcome, so it’s best to stop by an ATM before you hop in the Uber.
High demand is expected for Uber Safari trips, which run during Cape Town’s peak summer season from November to January. Advance booking is recommended.
Uber already has a strong presence in the region and will offer a 20% discount on trips to the wine country during the summer season.
“At Uber, our number one priority is to positively impact the communities and economies we serve,” Maji said. “In South Africa, we are proud to serve over 80% of the urban population in nearly 30 cities across the country. In doing so, we contribute significantly to the economy. In 2023 alone, Uber contributed approximately R17 billion ($970 million) to the South African economy, of which R1 billion ($58.4 million) was allocated to the tourism industry,” he added
