Actress Salma Hayek revealed this week that she does not have a prenuptial agreement to divide assets between her and her mega-billionaire husband François-Henri Pinault , son of Françoise Pinault and CEO and chairman of the Kering group .
However, Hayek told the Wall Street Journal in an interview that she is “on a mission” to make her own fortune and that she feels “under pressure to earn a certain amount of money .”
Hayek, 58, married her husband Pinault, 62, in 2009 after three years of dating and immediately launched herself into the world of the ultra-rich (Pinault heads the luxury group Kering and is worth more than $20 billion).
The couple have a daughter together, Valentina, 17, and keep their finances separate, Hayek told the Wall Street Journal . The actress said she does not have a prenuptial agreement with Pinault and works to support “many aspects of my life and myself,” with the ambition of making more money in the future — something her husband finds “quite sexy.”
Both Hayek and Pinault are from wealthy backgrounds — their father was an oil executive and Pinault inherited his father’s retail conglomerate — but Hayek said living among the ultra-rich put money front and center in a way she didn’t expect . “For me, the thrill of having a lot of money was that I didn’t have to think about money, and it turned out that everyone wanted to talk to me about money,” Hayek told WSJ magazine.
Pinault inherited a retail conglomerate called Pinault-Printemps-Redoute from his father in 2005 and has since built it into Kering, a luxury group that owns brands including Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent and Bottega Veneta . The company, valued at $21.2 billion (2023 revenue), also owns the Girard-Perregaux watch brand.
In addition to Kering, Pinault is the chairman of the investment firm Group Artémis and the family owns the auction house Christie’s , the talent agency Creative Artists Agency, the Château Latour winery in France and a 3,000-piece art collection featuring works by Picasso, Mondrian and Koons . Hayek is Pinault’s second wife and Valentina is his fourth child. He has two children with his first wife, Dorothée Lepère, and one with supermodel Linda Evangelista, whom he dated for less than six months in 2005.
Pinault was ranked 99th among the richest people in the world on Wednesday , with an estimated net worth of $20.6 billion.
