The Chinese brand Xpeng has officially presented its first aerial mobility vehicle, whose prototype was already unveiled a few months ago after a successful flight test last October 2023 and was presented today during the China Air Show. Thus, the Xpeng Land Aircraft Carrier is the first modular flying car that houses a two-seater, electric flying module inside.
The vehicle in question is 5.5 metres long, 2 metres wide and 2 metres high , fits in a standard garage space and is made up of two modules: the land module and the flying module. While the first has symmetrically opening doors, six wheels and 6×6 all-wheel drive, as well as rear-axle steering, its interior also offers four seats and a huge boot , capable of housing an electric flying module. In addition, the cabin is suitable for two occupants, panoramic and allows a 270-degree view.
The flying module is an electric eVTOL with a vertical takeoff from the ground, using six propellers and a carbon fiber structure . The latter folds when not in use so that the aircraft can fit into the ground vehicle itself.
In the summer of 2023, the Volkswagen Group acquired 5% of Xpeng’s shares for 700 million dollars . In addition, some of the brand’s models can be found in our country since last September.
In addition, the company has developed an ad hoc activity : creating the Xpeng Aeroht division, an aerial extension of the company that has been planning different land and air mobility options for years. Xpeng representatives have been saying for months that the low-altitude transportation business will move billions of dollars in the coming decades.
The brand is currently finalising the construction of this factory, where it plans to manufacture up to 10,000 units of this vehicle per year . No buyers have been revealed yet, but several politicians from the Guangzhou area were present at the presentation ceremony.
