A property for sale along New York’s Hudson River has ties to singer Billy Joel and JP Morgan.
The $2.5 million property located in Orange County, New York, includes three structures on 8,903 square feet: a main house on 1,700 acres, a three-bedroom garage and a separate one-bedroom cottage.
The house is located on the same foundation as Cragston, JP Morgan’s 1880s summer estate, and includes its original outdoor patio, fireplace and sideboard, according to real estate agent Jody Atkinson.
Cragston was destroyed in a fire in 1948, and the current house was rebuilt in the 1950s, using the same foundation, fireplace and surviving bricks. In the 1970s, the property was rented by musician Billy Joel.
He is said to have written the song “New York State of Mind” in an upstairs bedroom, and the songs “Summer in Highland Falls” and “Songs in the Attic” also reference the property. The current owners of the house used it as a guesthouse with a “Billy Joel Room.”
