The last phase of the work begins on Monday in the Plaça Rebés area.
The renovation of the viaduct on Carrer Doctor Vilanova in the capital enters its first phase on Monday with the installation of the 42 large beams that will support the infrastructure, according to the council. The installation involves ‘a very specific and complex operation using a very large crane capable of supporting large amounts of weight’, explains the corporation in a press release. In this new phase, 12 lighter cranes will be installed that will improve the viaduct’s performance. The viaduct was built 40 years ago and was designed to support the passage of vehicles of up to 16 tonnes, a figure that will be increased to 40 tonnes after the renovation. The structure will also be waterproofed so that the salt used for de-icing in winter does not penetrate, as has happened until now.
The work will cause restrictions for pedestrians and the blocking of access to the car parks of the Ciutat Vinyes Centre via Plaça Rebés from 19 to 23 February and from 26 to 28 February, while the work is in progress. The committee points out that on the afternoons of 26 and 27 February the Congress Centre and the Government building will be closed for work on the lower part of the viaduct and when the cranes fly over the two buildings.
The 23-metre-long machine, with a 60-metre-long arm, can load up to 450 tonnes and will come expressly to Andorra to place the bollards. The special vehicle will be joined by three additional trailers, which will carry the counterweights to stabilise the crane and carry out the loading manoeuvres safely, details the common. On Monday, 19 February, the crane will be in the Plaça Rebés area, and from 26 February it will work from the junction with Carrer Prat de la Creu.
