Andorra la Vella will no longer cover sick leave for workers

Until now it had directly assumed the sick leave supplement until it reached 100% of the salary. After finding that this practice is not correct, it has been decided to suspend these payments for the time being.

The municipality of Andorra la Vella has announced in a press release that it will make changes to the system for paying leave due to accidents at work to civil servants and permanent staff, adapting it to the recommendations of the Court of Auditors’ report for the 2022 financial year.

According to the communiqué, since 2013, when the contract with an insurance company was terminated, and up to the present day, the Common Good has been directly covering the supplement for incapacity due to occupational accident or occupational illness until it reached 100% of the employee’s salary. But after finding that this practice is not correct, the company has decided to suspend these payments for the time being.

The communiqué explains the complaint that work has begun on the basis of a public tender to contract an insurance company to provide the service and, at the same time, to apply modifications to the communal ordinance.

The measure is taken as a result of the last report of the Court of Auditors related to the audit work of the 2022 financial year, where it was indicated that the procedure applied by the Comú was not adequate.
