With the start of a new year, there are always countless lists compiled by travel experts and influencers predicting the most popular destinations for the next 12 months. But which countries does AI think will draw the crowds in 2024? Can AI predict the most popular travel destinations in 2024?
Travel trends analyst Mabrian used new technology to eavesdrop on impromptu vacation conversations on social media between January and October 2023. The results show that active and nature trips will be a priority for people this year. The destination research service then combines this with data on flight connections to highlight the destinations that best fit the growing trends. For visitors to Europe, cultural tourism continues to be in demand alongside growing interest in experiential travel. So Mabrian settled on destinations that offer plenty of active experiences as well as strong cultural appeal.
Which European country will be the most popular in 2024 according to AI?
Persistently desirable Italy has topped AI’s ranking of Europe’s most popular destinations in 2024. Piedmont topped the list thanks to its pristine nature, rich culture and even richer cuisine. Foodies can enter the forests with the truffle hunters, and adventure seekers can head to the snow-covered slopes of Val di Sousa and Via Latea. Italian destinations also occupy the top ten places: Campania in fifth place, Lombardy in seventh and Emilia-Romagna in ninth.
What are the best destinations in Europe for 2024?
France’s largest region, Nouvelle-Aquitaine is a close second for the award-winning vineyards of Bordeaux, the castle-strewn Loire Valley and the chic seaside resort of Biarritz. The more adventurous will enjoy the region’s access to hiking and skiing in the Pyrenees. In third place is East Anglia — the green heart of the country with the lazy waterways of Norfolk and the misty moors of Cambridge. France is back in fourth place with Occitania, home to sun-drenched orchards, the pink city of Toulouse and the glistening Mediterranean Sea. Finally, North Rhine-Westphalia took sixth place with its extensive cycling networks, romantic castles and big cities like Düsseldorf and Cologne.
