The flavors of AI: how they impact organizations and how different use cases can be divided

Baufest held its «AI Beyond the Hype» conference to explore how various technologies that use artificial intelligence are being used in practice.

The talk, led by Sergio Richter, a seasoned AI professional , provided attendees with insights into the practical applications of AI across various industries. Richter emphasized the need for businesses to go beyond the expectations and myths surrounding AI and understand its true potential. He highlighted that while AI presents a vast ocean of opportunities, navigating its complexities requires expertise and a deep understanding of its nuances.

The discussion focused on key topics including:

The Importance of a Structured Approach to AI Adoption: Sergio presented a framework developed by Baufest that guides companies through the process of identifying areas where AI can add value. This framework emphasizes a methodical approach to AI implementation, ensuring that companies invest in solutions that address their specific needs and challenges.

The 12 AI Use Cases: “If you do a classification of the entire AI organism, there are different ways to classify it, but you could define it in 12 families of use cases, where the first nine have nothing to do with GenAI,” Richter said. These families of use cases are: Prediction/Forecasting, Autonomous Systems, Planning, Decision Intelligence, Recommendation Systems, Segmentation/Classification, Intelligent Automation, Perception, Anomaly Detection, Conversational Interfaces, Content Generation, and Knowledge Discovery. This categorization helps companies move beyond a one-size-fits-all approach to AI, allowing them to select the most suitable solutions for their specific requirements.

«A project that we like to talk about because it is very illustrative is the development of a school recognition algorithm for a fishing fleet of a very large company in Central America. This company has more than 30 boats and needed to automatically recognize schools of fish from the sonar signal. The process was manual, which caused 90% of the recorded data to be lost. At Baufest, we were able to implement automatic recognition of schools of fish, reconstructing the signals into a precise image. This creates the possibility of placing the algorithm inside each boat that transmits to the cloud and in this way defining logistics that allow reducing the environmental impact by reducing fuel consumption and locating schools of uniform species,» said Sergio.

Navigating the Changing AI Regulatory Landscape: The discussion also touched on crucial aspects of emerging AI regulation in different regions such as the EU AI Act. Sergio explained the potential implications of these regulations for businesses and the importance of adopting responsible AI practices to ensure ethical and safe development and deployment.

The Future of AI in Business: Baufest spokespeople shared their perspectives on the future of AI and its anticipated impact on businesses around the world. They highlighted the importance of embracing AI not as a substitute for human workers but as a tool to improve productivity, foster creativity and unlock new possibilities.

«At Baufest, we focus on creating AI solutions that address specific business problems and generate real value for our clients. We consider it essential to integrate AI both in the development of digital products and in decision-making, whether in the areas of data analysis or cybersecurity,» said Pérez Puletti, CEO of Baufest.

The event concluded with a Q&A session, which gave attendees the opportunity to interact directly with the speakers and gain deeper insights into the practical considerations of AI adoption. The talk served as a testament to Baufest’s commitment to providing businesses with insights and tools to thrive in an increasingly AI-driven world.
